The Taxman Cometh

The Daily Beast broke the story late Thursday night (link here) that Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is conducting the expanding criminal investigation into Donald Trump and associates, has now joined forces with investigators at the Internal Revenue Service.

Potential financial crimes, including tax evasion and money laundering, are part of their special focus as they combine efforts with the top financial investigators already on Mueller's team. As almost everyone knows, the IRS was the one that brought down legendary mobster Al Capone after the FBI was unable to make a case stick.

The news that IRS criminal investiators are sniffing around Trump's financial history can't make him happy. This might explain Trump's Twitter tirade a few hours after the story broke as he apparently tried, but failed, to divert attention away from his bad news.
